Guardians of Cultural Heritage
Established practitioners dedicated to preserving stories embedded in historical objects through scholarly research and thoughtful presentation.
Return HomeOur Foundation
Vestige Collective emerged from a shared conviction among heritage professionals that every historical object deserves careful documentation and thoughtful presentation. Founded in 2012, we began with a small team of curators and researchers who had worked across Singapore's museums and private collections, recognizing that many significant objects lacked proper documentation despite their cultural importance.
Our practice centers on scholarly research combined with accessible communication. We believe that understanding an object's full history—its creation, ownership, cultural context, and journey through time—enhances both appreciation and preservation. This philosophy guides everything we undertake, from documenting individual pieces to developing comprehensive exhibitions.
Over the past decade, we have worked with collectors, institutions, and cultural organizations throughout Southeast Asia. Each project strengthens our understanding of diverse collecting areas while maintaining our commitment to rigorous research standards. Our team brings experience across decorative arts, historical artifacts, manuscripts, and cultural objects, with specialists who have trained at respected institutions internationally.
We approach every collaboration as a partnership, respecting our clients' vision while contributing professional perspective developed through years of curatorial practice. Whether documenting a single object or developing a major exhibition, we maintain the same careful attention to research accuracy, conservation principles, and clear communication that established our reputation.
Professional Standards
Research Methodology
Every project begins with systematic research using institutional archives, specialist correspondence, and scholarly literature. We document sources meticulously and present findings in accessible formats that serve collectors and researchers alike.
Conservation Ethics
Our recommendations align with international conservation standards established by organizations like ICOM and the American Institute for Conservation. We prioritize preventive conservation and coordinate with qualified conservators when intervention becomes necessary.
Confidentiality Protocol
We maintain strict confidentiality for private collections, handling all information with appropriate discretion. Documentation remains private unless clients specifically authorize sharing, and we adapt our practices to respect each client's privacy requirements.
Professional Development
Our team maintains active engagement with scholarly developments through conference participation, continuing education, and professional memberships. This ensures our knowledge remains current across diverse collecting areas and emerging conservation practices.
Ethical Guidelines
We adhere to professional codes of ethics governing cultural heritage work, including guidelines on provenance research, cultural sensitivity, and appropriate handling of objects from diverse cultural contexts.
Collaborative Approach
We work as partners with our clients, maintaining open communication throughout projects and adapting our services to meet specific needs while upholding professional standards that protect both objects and reputations.
